ABOUT
Mandy Pichler Photography began in 2014 when I picked up my camera after a near 25-year hiatus. My photographs of bands and musicians quickly caught the eye of the music industry and I began covering concerts and festivals for publications nationwide.
Today, I am a full-time photographer and writer. I've had the true honor and pleasure of photographing musicians in all phases of their melodic journeys. From the living legends to new local bands, I capture them all. I have also been invited to cover many music festivals throughout the country, including Riot Fest, Peach Music Festival, Beale Street Music Festival (Memphis in May), Summer Camp Music Festival, Kansas City Folk Alliance International, North Coast Music Festivals, Mamby on the Beach, Phases of the Moon Music & Arts Festival, and Magnolia Festival to name a few.
This year – 2018 – will be a transformative one for me and my company. I have finally began the photo book I knew I'd be writing since 1995, when my father gave me a box of my grandfather's photographs. Sifting through his images, I immediately knew I was not the milkman's daughter. I also knew I had story to tell about discovery and belonging and about the art lost because it was never made during the Holocaust and post-war Communism in Budapest, Hungary.
My words, my story, will accompany my grandfather's black & white landscapes. These images, taken during ice-climbing expeditions in the Austrian Alps between the two World Wars, as you can see below, are simply stunning.
Other projects are slated for this year; many of which started many months ago. The 'Personal' page of this site is certain to expand with photographs taken outside of venues, concert halls and stadiums. I've been studying light and landscapes and how both, together and individually, influence our perspectives and sharpe our behavior.
My image of tomorrow, in my mind's eye, continues to include live music photography. This is, after all, the foundation of Mandy Pichler Photography and my camera will continue to lead me (and you) into photo pits so that we – photographer and fans – have front-row access to the artists and bands that make us feel and be in ways nothing else can.
